#1 Stonescaping redesigned and built our back patio which had been falling apart and was beyond salvage. These guys did an excellent job I am very glad I chose them for this project. From the initial quote I could tell Dave and Chuck understood what I wanted and I felt confident it would come out that way. They provided me a timeline they would start and likely finish, and sure enough work started and finished according to that.

I don't even know where to begin. We decide to redo our back yard into an outdoor kitchen. We were so nervous about hiring a contractor these days. After years of aggravation from cutting grass within our pool enclosure, getting clippings in the pool, and dealing with mud after a rainfall, we decided to install a stone patio. #1 Stonescaping did a marvelous job for us both in advising us about the aesthetics of which stones and trim to use, ground preparation, and the actual installation of the pavers. David and Chuck did fantastic work each day, as they removed old concrete and sod, put in new gravel and prep materials, leveled the area, and removed the debris and cleaned up the site. The brickwork all around our house was heaving - the old front patio, the fairly new front door stoop and the large old backyard patio. In addition, the backyard lawn had holes from old roots and general sinking. All of it was unsightly and unsafe. We called #1 Stonescaping, realizing that we would probably have to wait until fall to have the corrections made. Dave came to give us an estimate and made sure to ask what our expectations were. He sent us what we considered to be a fair price and told us he might even be able to come by June. We were delighted. In April, Dave and his crew came by and said they could fit us in! They carefully cleaned, replaced and regrouted the brickwork, brought in fill to level the backyard and replaced a flagstone walkway. They showed up on time every day. We were beyond pleased with the outcome of their work. We felt it was like coming home to an HGTV re-model! We whole heartedly recommend this company.

I just wanted to take a few moments and express my appreciation to Dave and his crew. My wife and I had a 21 year old brick paver front walkway and step that has seen better days. The original walkway was "builders grade"; meaning the base was not adequate; the bricks were spreading apart; there were no edge constraints and the the front step was also sinking towards the house. Dave came to our house twice; once to deliver the estimate and explain the installation process; and again to give us extra help in picking colors and borders (we were indecisive). The installation was completed a week ahead of schedule, and the crew was careful not to disturb our lawn. The colors and style of tech-bloc Dave recommended are perfect! We both love our new walkway and would recommend #1 Stonescaping without hesitation.

My wife and I had planned to have a new stone front walkway installed in addition to an extended stone patio to replace an old and cracked concrete slab that the previous owner had tried to unsuccessfully repair. We had gotten a few estimates and had become frustrated with the spread of prices and the uncertainty of the salesmanship. One day I saw Dave's Stonescaping truck and equipment trailer in front of a house down the street who were also having a walkway replaced. I was immediately impressed by the workmanship that I was observing as well as the equipment that was coming out of the trailer, which also clearly had the name, phone number, and photos of the company's work right on its side. To me, that displayed pride and confidence in their work, unlike other fly by night companies.

The crew took time to answer my questions and I learned that Chuck was the owner's nephew and he has been with his uncle Dave's company for over twenty years, and that Dave has been in the business for over forty years. Furthermore, if I chose to have the project done by them, then Chuck and the crew that I was observing would be doing the actual work. "No brainer," I thought, "What I see is what I'll get." It is rare that you can actually see an example of a contractor's work in progress. So I asked for a card and brochure and made an appointment.

Dave came by one evening and we were immediately taken by his expertise as he gave us design options and suggestions, including colors that would go well with our siding, as well as block and border patterns. He agreed that the old cement stoop would need to be removed, as it was actually inclined towards the foundation. He also reassured us that the new walkway and patio had enough slope for drainage. We found Dave to be knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. He did share with us that we would be waiting a few months, but if we were patient, they would work on Saturdays to complete the project by the fall.

Due to Covid, the supply chain of the major stone manufacturers had been disrupted and the stone that we had liked had been cut back by the particular company that we had chosen. Dave worked with his local supplier and found us the exact same color stone that was in stock from another very reputable and well known worldwide stone manufacturer. As his supplier is a wholesaler not open to the public, Dave dropped off samples to us for our approval.

Indeed, Dave kept his word and the entire project was completed in two consecutive Saturdays. Finally, realizing a potential drainage problem because the project is in an alcove, Dave recommended adding cobble in front of the patio and beside some of the walkway next to the wall. The additional stone is a beautiful complement to the project.

David and his crew (Chuck, Tom, Cliff ...) just completed the building of a retaining wall at my home. Included in this project was the removal of an old wall and complete reconstruction and new footprint for the new wall. Job completed in 1 week, actually 6 working days. This was no small feat since the old wall took 2 of those days to remove and regrade the site. All workers on site were absolutely beyond excellent, extremely professional, meticulous and daily updated me on their progress. Each day they left the site cleaner than when the project started. We recently put an addition on our house. The construction destroyed our backyard (well worth it). Our commercial property in the heart of a revitalized downtown Schenectady is a unique property in that it features a large private courtyard. When we purchased the property 13 years ago the courtyard materials were already worn and dated. (pressure treated wood landscape timbers and concrete pavers) We spent two years finding the right stone materials and hardscape contractor. We found both in the natural bluestone we used for the deck and in #1 Stonescaping who did a fantastic job pulling it all together. After 6 weeks of intensive site and stone masonry work the result was the beutiful new courtyard your see in these photos.

Their workmanship was impeccable as Chuck and Dan are very detail oriented and took their time during each step of the project. Dave frequently came to oversee their progress. Each night they cleaned the work area and left no trace of the days debris. Dave and his crew also landscaped our small yard. The evergreens and perennials are healthy plantings and the results turned out beautiful. Recently we had stone work done at our business. We met with Dave as we wanted to eliminate steps and tie the new phase to meet the existing stone work. He had some great suggestions and we proceeded . Chuck and Dan were on the job daily. The work was impeccable . They were very considerate of the sensitivity of our business. The jobsite was kept clean at all times. We were very impressed with the outcome. We have recommended #1 to many of our friends and would not hesitate to continue to do so. We had a beautiful red brick walkway put in front of our house and people are slowing down and stopping to admire it! These guys are THE BEST! Dave, Chuck and Dan did an amazing job! Within a few minutes I felt like Dave would be the person that I would hire to design and build our patio. He was very professional, insightful, and maybe best of all, seemingly honest and down to earth. Dave was very patient with our decision making process and the job was started exactly when he said it would be. His crew members of Chuck and Johnny worked diligently right from the start. They kept the work area extremely neat and in order and didn't cause me any hardships. We hired #1 Stonescaping to do a patio around an in-ground pool we recently installed. Not only were Dave and Chuck a pleasure to work with, they were extremely professional and always cleaned up after themselves everyday and took extra care to make sure their vehicles and tools didn't impact the rest of the yard. Their stone work exceeded our expectations and Dave created a created a beautiful step up to our pool house with built in LED lights that is incredible. Additionally, they did some great landscaping around the pool as well. I would highly recommend them!

Dave and his crew, Chuck and Johnny, rebuilt a stone wall for me last year. Dave discussed redoing the landscaping behind the wall. This spring the boys pulled up all the old yews and prepared the area. Last week they returned and planted a variety of colorful plantings that really complement the whole yard.

We asked Dave to create some gardens that looked different from the others in the neighborhood. Dave listened and worked hard to find plantings that would accomplish this. We are very pleased and looking forward to enjoying the color and textures he put together for us.

Dave and his team did an excellent job building our gas fire pit. The pit came out great and his crew were professional. Will definitely use them for any future outdoor space needs.

When my family purchased a home that needed extensive work, we were lucky to have a referral to Dave. From the planning phase to execution, professional and kind would be the experience. The whole team worked to transform our home into a beautiful showpiece that is completely functional. I had procrastinated about repairing a retaining wall near the driveway. When I finally decided to move forward I contacted #1Stonescaping and spoke to Dave Lawler to get an estimate. I was expecting him to tell me that it was too late in the season to do the job, but to my surprise he told me they would start within a couple of weeks. Dave and his crew, Chuck and Johnny, started working the first week in December. There were some delays due to weather conditions but by the end of December the wall was completed. The new wall is like a work of art. Each stone was cut to fit in just the right place, reusing most of the stones from the original wall. Dave had told me in the beginning that once I saw this wall I would want to have the wall on the other side of the driveway done. He was right and I am planning to have the second wall redone in the spring. I really enjoyed working with Dave, we had some great laughs, and the new wall is beautiful.

It goes without saying that the service provided throughout my Hardscape project was unprecedented. As an Engineer the attention to detail is always critical, the level and attention to detail applied during my project was impeccable. The Communication between Chuck, the crew, and I thru every phase of the project made the experience enjoyable. The finished product has exceeded my expectations and my wife and family will enjoy this for years to come. #1 Stone is truly what they are #1. Dave and his guys just completed a redesign of a large area of our backyard using cobblestone and focal stone accent pieces. Not only are we delighted by the result but the work ethic of the group was clear to see and the price was reasonable. Dave had his own ideas as to the way it would look and he was correct from the start.

Your willingness to work with us on a design, careful planning and excellent installation produced a patio that we are proud of. With a project like this, I wanted to make sure that I did it right the first time. I quickly realized that I picked the right partner when I saw the level of detail being used. As retail business where we were open for business during the whole process, and the patio in a high traffic spot in front of our store. The excavation was done with minimal impact to our business. The job site was cleaned and cleared on a daily basis, to keep our store looking it's best. The careful leveling and pitching of the patio was perfectly done. We can have a massive rainstorm and my patio drains great. The interface of the different types of paving block within our patio was done beautifully. Chuck took his time to carefully think out the transitions between blocks and the end result is looks great. We get compliments on our patio every day. We love the natural limerock pieces which make our patio one-of-a-kind, as suggestion of Dave. The fire pit that Johnny constructed for us out of natural real stone, without mortar joints is high class all the way. You have a true craftsmen in Johnny.
